Since its transition to an independent entity in 2006, BCCJ has accomplished the following:
Board and Organizational Development
- Created a viable, independent successor organization to a well-established branch of a national organization
- Redefined BCCJ’s mission, approach, program approach and evaluation strategy
- Added new members to its Board of Directors
- Invited program alumni to join board committees focused on resource development and mission delivery
- Launched the BCCJ Block Party as an event reflective of the BCCJ community and individually affordable for most of BCCJ’s alumni
- Hired new staff members focused on enhancing delivery of high quality programming as well as building of organizational capacity
- Established an alumni Advisory Council
Programming
- Engaged increasing numbers of youth and adults in our program offerings each year. LeadBoston expanded from 32 participants in 2006 to 57 in 2008, now offering both a Wednesday and a Saturday track. InIt held two summer sessions in 2008 and has expanded from a summer program to a full school year
- Piloted evaluation frameworks for LeadBoston and InIt focused on BCCJ’s four leadership capacities
- Built the Alumni Network including a centralized database and a variety of programming and communications to link and enhance alumni leadership
- Created the BCCJ Business Network with 17 member companies and hundreds of individuals participating
