History
The Boston Center for Community and Justice (BCCJ) builds on the tradition of advancing social justice across Greater Boston originally set by the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ). Since 1943, NCCJ worked with the area’s leading organizations to raise awareness about issues of diversity among both youth and adults.
On September 1, 2005, in a move to gain control over its vision, strategy and resources, the Greater Boston regional office separated from NCCJ and became an independent 501(c)(3) organization. The NCCJ Greater Boston President and six members of the Advisory Board of NCCJ were the driving force in establishing and incorporating the successor organization. Their aim was for BCCJ to draw upon NCCJ’s proud tradition of championing the cause of inclusion and fairness in Greater Boston, while expanding its historic mission to focus on developing socially responsible leaders who will promote social justice in both their personal and public lives.
